Origin For Mac Is Here!

Today I’m proud to announce the official launch of Origin for Mac. Our vision with Origin is to connect your gaming universe online, and today we're taking a major step in expanding our service to reach Mac-based gamers worldwide. Now Mac gamers can enjoy many of the same features that have defined Origin for PC users: including cloud storage to saved and continue games, social connectivity via friends list, and more.

One new feature will be of particular interest for gamers who play on both PC and Mac machines: dual-platform play. For select EA games (that are available on both PC and Mac), you can buy a title once on Origin, and when you log into Origin on either Mac or PC, that same game will appear in your newly unified (Mac/PC) My Games library.

The Mac catalog includes titles from both EA and its publishing partners (such as Warner Brothers and Sega), including smash hit titles like Dragon Age 2, Batman: Arkham City GOTY Edition, LEGO Harry Potter, and The Sims 3. As a special launch offer, we're also having a Simtastic 13th Anniversary Sale, where you can download The Sims 3 base game and expansion packs on Origin for Mac for as little as $10—this sale is only running for a limited time, so act fast.

In delivering great game content, connecting the Origin service across PC, Mac and iOS devices, and offering great value to gamers with dual-platform play on select EA titles, Origin is making it easier than ever before for gamers to connect and play anytime, anywhere. You can download Origin for Mac today at www.origin.com/download.

I'm really glad its here for Mac but I'm disappointed that no one would confirm that this was going to happen before January ended. I wanted to pre-order SimCity with the special deal that ended in January, but I also didn't want to end up buying two copies as the pre-order was only for the origin copy...and I did post in the forum. Really sad that I lost out. But thank you for finally releasing it.

Does the mac version gives you acces to the PC version to? (if so its a nice deal)
Or just only the mac version (if so its lame)

@TheCookieMachine

You buy a game once using Origin. If the game has a Mac version, then you can play that game on a PC or a Mac. Simplicity. It all uses the same account you're already logging in to to post on this page and others that are Origin related.

It's about time! It's been a shame to favor half of your customers and leave the other half hanging.

It's a shame that all the games are awful and/or can be bought on the App store. Been waiting for origin for a while, but where are Battlefield, Crysis, MOH, Mass Effect, Dead Space etc??? Come on EA. Disappointed. Should have launched with this lot

@redgordon - If you're running into an installation issue, please contact Customer Support via https://help.ea.com/contact-us and they should be able to help you out.

@aeduigenan1 - We'll have more games coming to the Origin Mac store in the future, so keep checking back.

Good news. Thanks for working on this. Can you get a Mac version of Battlefield1942 on here please? I bought it from EA 10 yrs ago, but now I can't play it in certain servers with this new Origin deal :( Thanks for your time

I am having an issue with Origin and Customer Service has yet to help me! I bought The Sims 3 Showtime EP through Origin on my PC on 4/20/12. Since I now have a Macbook, I decided that I was going to download TS3 Showtime from Origin on my Mac, but I can't. I can install that worm game that Mac users were given with the Alpha version of Origin, but I can't get Showtime on my laptop! I have talked to a few advisors through Live Chat, but nothing has worked. My computer AND my game are both up to date. I have hard copies of all my other Sims 3 games (All EPs and SPs minus Fast Lane) and Showtime is my only digital copy. This is saddening because I don't want to buy it again, and I really loved playing Showtime when I had a PC! I'm scared to cancel my pre-order of TS3 University Life on Amazon, but I really want to order it off of Origin so I can have the LE version. So sad. :(

That's very cool. I was planning to get a Mac soon. I'm not in favor for PC. When battlefield is released for it, will you be able to play online with people that use PC as well, or Mac users only? Vise versa. I don't like the idea of boot camping and buying a windows software. I'm just confused on that part.

February 10, 2013
Elizabethkay93,

do you even realize that since your Showtime is digital, and rest is physical... that they have different directories? why don't you claim all your sims to origin, as I did and see if it works that way.
dothacker81
February 10, 2013
BTW Origin, I know bioware has mac version of Dragon Age Origins. Are you guys going to put that in too?

Thanks.

February 10, 2013
@hanafi1997 you do have a problem, since FIFA 13 wasn't released for mac. it's either you get a PC or go bootcamp.
elisabethkay93
February 10, 2013
@dothacker81 That may be the reason I can't download Showtime... Would I have to uninstall all of my TS3 physicals from my macbook? I really want to play Showtime!

Knowing EA when they say they'll have new games soon (Fifa, Crysis, MOH, Battlefield, Dead Space, Mass Effect) it will be months away. Also, what's going on wit these prices??? I've seen games like ME3 go for £6.99 on PC and Batman is around £20!? We get ripped off enough on the App store. If you want to be a contender with Steam release new games very quickly and sort out the ridiculous prices

February 12, 2013
Very disappointing! All of my Origen games are only accessible on the PC still! You don't have any of the FIFA games available for the MAC. what good does this do us as EA gamers when so many popular EA titles aren't available for the MAC?

Installed and created an account. Unfortunately, i can't log into it, both on web store - doesn't say anything - and the client itself - says "An unkown error has occured. Please restart Origin and try again". Tried it hundreds of times!... Actually, the only place i can log in is here, in the blog. That means i can't ask for support on your page :x What shall i do? Thanks

For those asking about FIFA 13 for Mac, you'll need to reach out to their development team about that, located at http://forum.ea.com/uk/sections/show/1.page

As stated before, we'll be adding more Mac versions of games in the future.

@Martinni8 - We recommend you reach out to Customer Support via https://help.ea.com/contact-us, and they should be able to work with you to get it working properly, since it sounds like a permissions issue.

Hi! Thanks for the answer ;) But that's the biggest trouble i'm having. I can't log in to contact you through the help center i don't know why :S

Even tried to reset my password, but the email is not coming to the inbox... Tried it a couple of days ago. And tried again today. Neither as spam nor on the inbox; it isn't coming at all.

Hey Martinni8, if you keep getting this error, I would suggest creating a new secondary account for now. You can then use it to log in at http://help.origin.com to contact a Game Advisor about your main account's issues.

Store updated, thought it would be crysis/battlefield or something of that nature. Turned out to be more useless games that no one wants to play.

I would create me and some of my buddies to play out our college career as we are finishing it up right now. There would be me as the guy working towards his teaching degree, my buddy who is working towards sending his metal band to fame, and my last best buddy who is struggling with going to med school and balancing out time for his girlfriend.

It's nice that they finally launched Origin for mac, but the games for mac you download there are crappy, i've installed through Origin The Sims 3 and all it's Expansion Packs and.....My game freezes every 10 minutes.

I pre-ordered a physical copy of simcity for the PC. When I install it, through Origin, will I then be able to download it through Origin for Mac?

I assume all games are registered through Origin?
