The New Origin Update Launches Today

We are proud to announce that the latest update to the Origin client has come out of beta and is now live for all Origin users. As detailed previously, this update introduces a number of improvements—starting with the ability to add non-Origin games to your My Games library. You can now make Origin your primary platform to launch all of your PC gaming experiences. We’ve also implemented a Twitch broadcasting feature that will let you broadcast your gameplay live to other users; gameplay broadcasting remains in a beta stage at this point, and we look forward to sharing more as its full feature set comes online soon. As always, we’ve made several optimizations and tweaks, such as faster load times, a more responsive Friends List, and menu options when you right-click on Origin in your task bar.

Starting today, the latest version of Origin will be rolled out to users everywhere. If you’re eager to check out these exciting new features, you can download the latest version now from www.origin.com/download.

Release notes for this update:

  • Improved client performance to allow for quicker startup
  • Improved the speed of your friends list while loading
  • You can now add games purchased outside of Origin to your My Games library
  • Added a feedback survey that allows you to tell us what you think of Origin
  • Added the ability for you to broadcast gameplay live
  • Right-clicking on Origin in your task bar will now display more options

Got a feature you would like to see added to upcoming versions of Origin? Leave us a comment below.

Before this update, I'd been having a problem with ME2 DLC content continuously downloading every time I ran Origin even though they were all already installed. Last night, it didn't do this. If this update fixed that: THANK YOU!!!

Let me answer a bunch of the questions above.

@Gilbert_Sarip - This is a feature that is still being looked into.

@XxAdrian63Xx - Gifting is a feature that we hope to roll out in the future, but there is no ETA. This is something we know many of our users want in order to share games with their friends.

@PRINTDAMNIT - We're always working on new and improved community features, part of which was included in this update with the Twitch streaming. We'll have many more down the line as we continue to evolve the Origin client.

@wakitacki - That was one of the miscellaneous fixes we added, since we had a few users requests for it recently.

@RavenGrawe - We've been working on achievements for a while now, and it's certainly coming in a future update. There's a lot that goes into this particular system though.

@CommandMan12345 - I'm not 100% sure what you're asking, can you be more specific? Also, you can try contacting support via http://help.ea.com.

If you had told me a year ago that my cpu would back up my saves in the cloud i would have said " meh " but today My main pc is in the wife's work from home office. so sometimes when I want to get my game on its on the Republic of gammers laptop out on the kitchen dinner table. Then when her shift is over I move into the office and boot up my enthusiast pc and pick up in DA2 or ME3 where I left off. Thank you Origin/EA, keep up with the things that make me smile.

Origin desperately needs a feature, so if your email is changed within Origin... you get an email to your old email address, which you must click a link to confirm.

Instead, Origin sends an email to your old email, saying the change has taken place, but no action is needed. So if it goes into your spam folder, or its overlooked... you're out of luck.

My brothers account got hijacked because of this. He was able to retrieve his account over the phone, but the email change should never have happened.

This brings me to my next point... Origin needs a feature like "Steam guard" that requires an email confirmation code/link just to get into the Origin account. If my account was hijacked for just a few moments, the hijacker could play multiplayer games with cheats on, and get my account banned before I knew what was going on.

Just the other day, I got a notificiation saying somebody else had logged into my account as I was on. I immediately changed my password, so I hope he got booted... but Origin has serious risks. If Origin is going to be required for games like Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, Warfighter, and any and all upcoming games... My account needs to be protected much better than it is now.

SERIOUSLY, GET THE VOICE CHAT ON, A BETTER INTERFACE WITH A BETTER STORE AND A COMMUNITY AND YOULL BE ON YOUR WAY TO COMPETE WITH STEAM

this shouldn't just be for games, but to share opinions and create a community, not that hard. there is no excuse to be this far behind. DD is not new like it was when steam came out, so get on with it if you want to succeed.

I had to format C: and re-install my Windows 7. After a clean install, I re-installed Battlefield 3 and NFS The Run, and ran into multiple problems, which I never had before the re-install.
My first issue is Origin. After a clean install when it runs I get the message,
"The procedure entry point
?DropEvent@QLineEdit@@MAEXPAVQDropEvent@@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library QtGui4.dll"

How can this happen on a clean install with standard Windows 7, when it was working on the same PC before the install?

PS. One person thinks my Origin is not working because I installed it to D: not C:
antandcharmi
December 31, 2012
Wow - that was it! You must install Origin to the default location or you may get error "The procedure entry point
?DropEvent@QLineEdit@@MAEXPAVQDropEvent@@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library QtGui4.dll"

This is a shame to the Origin programming team. Speaking as a programmer myself, a programmer who does not cater for the basics of installation location, re-installs, double installs, and all the other variable obvious situations which happen in real life, should be a clerk.
