Weekly Giveaway: The Sims 3


It’s that time: our weekly prize giveaway. Leave us a comment for a chance to win free game codes and other sweet prizes while celebrating your favorite games. Each Thursday, we post a new question—like us on Facebook to stay in the know.

Are you excited for The Sims 3 University Life? Your Sims could join a protest, host a bonfire party by the lake, or socialize with nerds, rebels, and jocks. Hanging out with each of these groups could help you unlock your dream job, or an extra trait. What traits would make your Sims lives more awesome?

Most simmers create a version of themselves in The Sims 3 when they first use “Create a Sim”, but some get creative to model their Sims after existing pop culture icons, historical figures, or movie characters. To enter to win a free copy of The Sims 3 for PC/Mac download (remember, this title supports dual-platform play for Origin users who have both platforms), give us a brief description in the comments below of what sorts of characters would inhabit your Sims dorm or home. Entries must be posted by February 24th at 11:59pm PT to be considered.

The Origin team will pick five (5) random commenters to win this week’s prize. Please note, only one entry per person is permitted for each giveaway, and only residents of North America, aged 18 and older, who are not EA employees or affiliated with an EA employee, are eligible. Winners will be contacted via email on their registered Origin/EA email address to claim their prize. Good luck!

Have the ability to do stunts... wreck cars, jump motor vehicles...etc and get paid!

My character would all be happy families with a dark fued with other families that live in the neighborhood. One would always throw parties and cause a ruckus, and the rest would try and sabotage them. I would create the ultimate society of hateful people.

IN my first Sims game, which was also the first version. I had downloaded skins of numerous celebs and heroes. Then placed them together ironically. Such as Buffy and gang in the same house as Kain and Raziel. Interestingly Buffy and Raziel ended up together. So likely something akin.

I would fill my dorms with characters that resembled the cast of my favorite TV shows, such as Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Justified, and Archer. Not only would it be funny to watch, it'd be interested to watch the groups that are formed and figure out what type of TV show you could make out of the characters :)

The sims I would want in my dorm are those who are homebody, somewhat social butterflies, the occasional partying and getting wasted, but still focus on the curriculum at hand and to graduate and have a successful future. So mostly would be gamer nerds, some jocks, just a all around type of sims would inhabit my dorm with different personalities but are all focused more so on getting the proper education that college is meant for.

One guy paints/instruments, one dude makes plants/potions (for that life-extending potion), and the other two are a duo between cooking/astronoming, and fixing stuff/sports. Maybe as their lives get extended (thanks to that potion), they'll become all-rounded (read: full blown experts) in everything, but they'll start out normally. Also, their professions (life goals): a spy, astronomer, rock star, and professional sports player. A well-round coalition of people, and it sort of (maybe) reflects my current dorm, except all the skills are centered in me, with the rest sort of splitting up the planting profession.

My favorite house was my own version of "Big Brother", but with re-created celebrities. Here is my favorite with their overall traits:
Adrian Monk (from tv's "Monk") - Made him just like he is on tv
Nicolas Cage (from "Everything") - Crazy, narcissistic, and slob (just to f*** with Monk)
Adam Sandler (Happy Gilmore) - Childish, Inappropriate, and slob
Chuck Norris - Overall ******, brave, charismatic, etc.

Things played out entertainingly enough, until Monk died of exhaustion due to constant cleaning.

Obviously throw parties in my dorm everyday and desperately try not to fail out of the classes at the university. Lots of coffee and no sleep for the Sim of my creation when it comes to the college life. The move over to start a family with a model of the same character who would have a decent job regardless of how bad he was in college

My characters would have split personality disorder, as well as bipolar disorder. They would also be a vigilante type, similar to Dexter Morgan. However, he would work in a prison hospital and become known to the prisoners as an angel of death and he would unofficially run the prison.

I have been playing The Sims since 2003 and have loved every year it has been out because it has given me opportunities to play with my Sims in different areas, generations and locations. If I had The Sims 3 University, I would take advantage of recent expansions and store content and create a historical experience for my Sims to interact with every day. This could include exchange students that have come from World Avengers, or the more knowledgeable and elderly generation from Generations or simply if I had only The Sims 3, create bios for my Sims that gave them the edge and more "interesting factor" that not even an expansion could provide.

I usually create characters that are like me, but better. The things I wish I were, that I'm not quite yet, but am striving toward. Sometimes I make silly characters just to see what will happen with the different characteristics.

I love the Sims, and have been a fan since the original game came out. It's one of many things I enjoy doing in my down time.

My sims would consist of a hot head and young rich guy with no job, who roams around his city looking for girls to woo with his piles of cash. But he didn't get rich on his own, oh no. Back on his plot, behind his house, is a 'housing unit' with no door, no roof, no flooring. It's inhabitants are 5 very creative and very hungry artists. The only connection they have with the outside world is a refrigerator that Bigbucks McScrooge puts food into via his refrigerator. Mwahahaa!

My sim would be starting from a young child, growing into a magical witch, of genius inttellect, would be very lucky, would be a computer whiz, and a bookworm, and good, and would build himself a house full of magic and wonder, in a steampunk type homestead.

I rememer when I first bought "The Sims " enjoyed the game so much and had no idea that my hold day was consumed in playing this game. Now my whole family loves the Sims, Sims 2 and all the expansion packs. When real life gets me down I can always count on palying the sims just to relax and unwind from everything .

My Favorite thing about sims is creating a family and then getting every single possible super natural creature and then making them have cute babies to see how they turn out. I remember when I first started playing sims 2 I would make a family and invite people over and then kill them in my house just so I could have a haunted mansion with loads of scary ghosts and I also made tons of alien babies!! that was my favorite because it looked so cool having them abducted. I bet the sims university will be just as awesome as the sims 2. I really cant wait to create college students and have them in dorms and degrees!

Out of all the hours I've spent with previous Sims games I think there's only one type I haven't made: myself. A neurotic, agoraphobic, OCD Sim sounds far more interesting than it should be.

I can say I am old school hard core "The Sims" player, I started with the original "sim city", and almost every other variant, including SimTower, and when the original Sims came out, I loved it, bought every expansion pack, then Sims 2 came out, Loved the enhancements from the original Sims game. Again, bought all of the expansion packs for it. When Sims 3 came out, there were some good things and bad things about it. I hated how fast the sims aged in the game, but then the tweaks and cheats came out and I could fix that. Just like the first two versions, I own all of the expansion packs and stuff packs. I am looking forward to University.

There's always the partyboy/girl. The one who doesn't care about their grades and is looking more to have fun and make friends.

Then we have the recluse: No one knows much about him, but when he comes out of his room everyone notices.

Of course there will always be the couple in love; not caring about anyone else.

Those are the big ones. There are smaller, less noticeable faces.

Well to have the best possible mix of characters they need to be all over the place.

You'll have the jock; who is there on the scholarship and everyone helps him out because he is such an asset to the team.

The 4.0 GPA Genius who thinks circles around everybody else; sometimes without even knowing he is doing it.

The artist who is always active in protests and social movements; she always speaks her mind, sometime to ill effect.

And then you have to have the wildcard party-girl; who knows how to do everything but what she went to college to actually do.

I'm not sure what kind of Sims will inhabit the house, because I never make them! I love making homes. I'm studying interior design at CCAD here in columbus, and the Sims is an excellent way for me to stay in a decorative mindset when I don't have the time to really invest in a project. From moat-entrenched 7 story castles on the biggest lot, to 3-6 room modern condos, I LOVE making houses in this game!

Unfortunately, I used to use my roomates copy of the game and he moved out about 4 months ago. I haven't had the money to shell out on any games lately, and this giveaway made my eyes light up. In the words of Mr. Stephen Colbert - "GIVE IT TO ME.. NOWWW!"

I would have a boy sim who is a real jock and he would pick on nerds and throw parties all the time and be real cool and then my other sim would be a girl and would be his girlfriend and she wouldn't be mean to nerds because she would be good and friendly so she would be nice and charismatic to everyone and then I would have her fall in love with a nerd and she would end up dumping her boyfriend and then her and the nerd would live happily ever after.

Believe it or not, my husband asked me out on our first date because of Sims. A mutual friend popped onto the voice software we were all using and asked him his sign (sun sign) so she could create a new Sim. He said, "I'm a scorpio." I put in, "Wow! I'm a cancer! We probably get along great!" That was 7 1/2 years ago and we do, in fact, get along great. Who says a video game can't create relationships? : )

I would create myself and my girlfriend both living the university life, (as currently we are), but instead of studying hard everyday, do everything opposite of what me and my gf do in real life, Eg.( having parties, fooling around on campus, etc.). Sims 3 and the next expansion University Life gives me a chance to do what I didn't and will not do in real life, which makes it a fun and exciting game. I hope I get a copy so my and my girlfriend could have fun.

In the classic Sims tradition I would begin with a "big brother house" and fill it with Sims whose personalities do not match...however I would like to up the ante by putting a small observation booth on the same lot and having 1-2 'free' Sims hang around like they're in charge of the experiment.

Oh sorry I didn't explain in my comment what I would do with my Sims 3. I would make a sim that has an amazing life with lots of money and suddenly loses it buying lots of useless things. So even though he is a tycoon type sim he will have to get used to being a poor sim and will rely on other sims and relationships to regain his 1% status. He'll be a crazy sim who's willing to do anything.

When I played The Sims 2 with characters that are college aged and likely to live in a dorm, I usually just created one character based on myself, one girlfriend character and one character to take care of cooking, cleaning, repairs etc.
My character focused mostly on playing chess and getting higher up in the business career track (if I remember how Sims 2 worked correctly), while the gf mostly exercised in the pool and worked on her career as well (I think law).

Then I would make a young couple-ish thing and have it so that college is making hard to make the relationship work, and of course last but not least, I would make the nerd getting picked on by the jock..!! I almost always start off making a Lawful character, uptight, goody two-shoes, etc. Then I get creative, once I made a band of starving musicians. There's usually a college frat dude in the mix (would probably end up owning a vineyard). The Sims University would benefit from being installed on my PC because as Professor Sim-god I could have massive study sessions where both jocks and "studious students" [a.k.a. nerds] can be in the same dorm lobby/ living room together [jocks studying and nerds hitting on the cheerleaders] studying well into the night for the next day's exam where "A's" are earned by those still awake, refreshed, and somewhat intelligent; or the cheerleaders and sorority ladies get into a turf war where the spoils of war is the attention of the jocks [the losers get the nerds--or is that still winning?].

I would first create a large mansions with several floors. As you go up each floor, the quality of items in the rooms increase. I would create as many sims as I could and hold daily karate competitions. The winners would be allowed to live higher up while the losers live down below. The person who reaches the top first will become the master and future karate teacher of the new combatants. He can only be replaced until he is beaten in a fight to the death.

My sim would be a psychopathic unicorn-obsessed dishwasher that lives on the edge of town in a surprisingly wealthy-looking glass house. He lives off of potatoes and has an excessive amount of refrigerators. People often hear him arguing with said refrigerators on the ninth floor of his glass mansion. All the time he isnt spending in his house or purchasing potatoes, he fishes in the public swimming pool. This is probably why nobody ever swims there.

I would love to have a free copy of Sims 3 to play. I would make a medical profession sims with a hospital, doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers, etc. and a veterinary hospital with all the animals interacting with the people. Thanks for the contest!

I'm a huge sims 2 fan and I have been wanting to try out sims 3 for a while. But I could probably just borrow the disks from my cousin. Still I like the whole digital download thing you guys do. Especially since sims 2 ep's have disappeared from pretty much every store.

Home/ Dorm- I would make it like real life and have many families party and get together and also have the family members interact among each other. Mine would be, a super hero's alter ego, some supernaturals and at least one clueless sim who had no idea what the others were. Maybe throw in a Lara Croft or Indiana Jones type as well. League of Extraordinary Sims!
