We recently announced the transition from Play4Free to Origin Free To Play—where we bring the extensive free-to-play library under the Origin umbrella. Now Origin is your single destination for paid downloadable PC games and free-to-play games alike; not only are we continually evolving and adding paid titles to the Origin catalog, but we’re also adding new free-to-play titles to the service. Korean developer SmileGate’s popular online shooter CrossFire premieres as the first partner title in the expanded Origin Free To Play library with regional versions for North & South America and Europe.
CrossFire and CrossFire Europe are fast-paced military shooters that put you in one of two rival Private Military Corporations: Global Risk (a traditional PMC firm with ties to the US and the UK) and Black List (a more secretive group sprung from militia groups in war-torn nations). Both PMCs are vying for control of the world, and the player contributes to this conflict by participating in scenarios spanning 10 different gameplay modes. All the standard modes—Free-for-All, Team Death Match, Search and Destroy, etc.—are included along with unique Zombie, Mutation, and Predator modes—offering something for everyone.
You’ll start out as a Trainee and work your way up to ranks like Captain and Marshall. Along the way, you’ll wield realistic weapons ranging from classics like the M4A1 to more exotic fare like the futuristic XM8 or the old-yet-effective Tommy Gun. You can equip yourself with an impressive spread of close-combat weapons, explosives, and life-saving equipment by spending Game Points that you earn from matches. If you like, you can also spend real-world currency to buy unique variations like golden AK-47s. You can further customize your identity with a variety of character skins, ranging from existing military units—such as US Navy SEALs, British SAS, or German GSG-9—to more exotic forces like Mutants and Assassins.
With more than 4.2 million concurrent players around the world, you’ll never be hard-pressed to find a match online. Plus, as an Origin user, you can get a free Starter Kit that gives you extra experience, and items such as a Bulletproof Vest, protective Flash Goggles, and 20 each of Hyper Meds and Respawn Tokens—which should provide a pretty nice advantage. CrossFire is just the first example of Origin Free To Play expanding its library to include titles from third-party partners, and you can expect to see more great titles to come—all free to play, of course.
