Welcome to Origin How-Tos; here we’ll regularly point out tips and tricks about using the service, ranging from making sure your cloud saves are enabled to tweaking your friend notifications. Origin is an evolving service -- we’re continually taking your feedback about desired features and technical issues and working to make our service even more valuable for you as a gamer. And we want to make sure you know all the best tricks when using Origin.
Today we’ll focus on the benefits of Origin In Game. The basics are simple: it’s an overlay that lets you browse the web, access your friends list, and adjust settings without leaving your actual game. With Origin In Game enabled, you then press Shift-F1 (the default key; you can remap this to any key combination you want) to access it, and can do the following actions:
Access the web browser
Browse the Origin store
Chat with friends
Invite friends into or join friends in a multiplayer session
Display a profile
Show Origin help
In particular, we believe the option to chat with friends and use a web browser are two of the most useful features in Origin In Game. You could be playing Medal of Honor Warfighter while a buddy is busy with a race in Need for Speed Most Wanted; and you both could still exchange tips and strategies in your respective games. With the full web browser built-in to Origin In Game, you can check the score of your favorite sports team’s current game, check in on what people are up to on Facebook, or read the Origin Insider blog for more info about EA games without leaving your game (which is helpful for downtime moments such as waiting for a multiplayer session to start).
We’ve optimized Origin In Game for several titles in the service, but you can still enable it to run with pretty much any game you own. To enable Origin In Game for all games available and played through Origin, follow the steps below:
Open Origin and log into your Origin Account
Click on the Origin menu and select Application Settings from the drop down menu
Click on the In Game tab at the top to display the Origin In Game options
Check box to Enable Origin In Game
At the moment, we’ve optimized Origin In Game for many EA games, and it should still generally work with most other games in your library. There are a few rare instances where Origin In Game conflicts with a game’s built-in menu, and in those cases the game’s menus are the default. But Origin In Game is your go-to for most all games on Origin.
